Looking for a specific electronic component and not finding it in regular webshops? Start with the part number, manufacturer number or brand instead of a broad product name.

Those details are often more reliable than a general description. The same component can be named differently by different suppliers, while the manufacturer part number or type number points to the exact item.

1. Start with the number on the component

Check whether you have one of these details:

  • manufacturer part number;
  • part number;
  • type number;
  • brand or manufacturer;
  • code or marking on the component;
  • value or specification.

The more specific your search is, the better the chance of finding the right component.

2. Do not rely only on the product name

A general product name can be too broad. It is usually better to search for the exact number or marking than only for "capacitor", "switch" or "connector".

With technical components, small differences can matter.

3. Check the specifications before choosing an alternative

Does a component look similar to the original? Still check the specifications.

Depending on the component, look at details such as:

  • voltage;
  • current;
  • capacitance;
  • tolerance;
  • package;
  • dimensions;
  • pinout;
  • mounting style;
  • datasheet.

A similar-looking part is not automatically a suitable replacement.

4. Search precisely at Sinuss

In the Sinuss search function, preferably use:

  • manufacturer part number;
  • part number;
  • brand;
  • value or specification;
  • product group.

Then check the product page before ordering.

For more background, read the Werkbank article ordering Farnell components through Sinuss.

5. No result? Use the request block

If you cannot find the component in the shop, use the request block on the search page. Enter your name, email address and as many component details as possible. Sinuss can then check whether the product is available through Farnell or another suitable route and contact you.

You will not receive an automatic confirmation email. After sending the request, you will see a confirmation page.

6. What Sinuss can and cannot promise

Sinuss can check whether a component is available through Farnell or another suitable route. That does not mean every component is always available, or that every alternative is technically suitable.

When in doubt, use the datasheet, schematic or manufacturer information.

Summary

If you cannot find an electronic component:

  1. search by manufacturer part number or part number;
  2. note the brand and marking;
  3. check the specifications;
  4. search precisely at Sinuss;
  5. use the request block if you do not get a result.

Search for your component at Sinuss or use the request block on the search page.
